Girl’s Hebraic Dance

Girls Dance Team during a festival celebration.

“Let them praise His Name with dancing…”
Psalm 149:3

The Girl’s Hebraic Dance Team 2008

In addition to the women’s dance team, we offer a dance team for girls ages 8-11. The purpose of this team is to teach young ladies how to worship HaShem through dance and cultivate the ability to express themselves and their love for Him. Dancers will learn self-discipline, gain confidence, and develop teamwork skills as they learn the basic steps of Hebraic dance.

In Phase I, students will learn fundamental dance steps before progressing to Phase II, where they will learn complete Hebraic dances. The technical skills developed throughout Phase II are designed to prepare the girls to eventually lead the dance team in worship. Only Phase II students may participate in the dance circle on Shabbat. Phase II students have spent enough time learning the dance steps that will enable them to flow with the worship team. There are two opportuntiies for them to practice!

Practicing on Monday Night Live.
Girls Dance Team during a festival celebration. Girls are invited to attend class on Monday Night Live and a 30-minute practice session right before Shabbat Service every Saturday. Any Phase II students interested in dancing on Shabbat must attend either the Monday Night Live class or the 30 minute practice session before Shabbat. Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for all dance students to participate in special dances during the High Holy Days. These festival dances are beautiful and they encourage the entire community to enter into the sacred times set aside for us to celebrate God.
Girls’ Hebraic dance classes provide a safe atmosphere in which young girls will learn about modesty in dress and proper attitude during worship. Girls must wear head coverings when they dance on Shabbat and on the High Holy Days. They must also wear dresses, skirts, and blouses that cover their knees and shoulders. These guidelines are meant to teach young women to develop a heart for putting attention on God and not themselves during the worship times. Students graduate from the Girls’ Hebraic Dance at the age they become eligible to be Bat Mitzvah. At this time they may also move up to the Women’s Hebraic Dance Team. At this point they will have had the opportunity to develop a heart of worship towards God and understand the importance of teamwork as they join their fellow sisters in worshiping God through dance.
