Doing away with the Sabbath
Recent scholarship has established numerous motivations for Gentile Christians abandoning the weekly Shabbat. Two primary motivations were antisemitism (hatred of the Jews) and hatred of the law of Moses (torah). By the second century, celebrated Christian teachers such as Justin Martyr and Marcion were fanning the flames of antisemitism and disparaging the law of Moses everywhere in Christendom. Marcion championed a form of Gnostic Christianity, which spread the lie that the law of God is a curse and that we are free from it in Christ. This is akin to the heresy of anti-nomianism (lawlessness). These twins from hell (antisemitism and anti-nomianism) are greatly responsible for influencing Gentile Christians to abandon and reject the Sabbath as relevant for their lives. In rejecting the Sabbath, Gentile Christianity slowly turned their backs on the Jewish people, the great lawgiver Moses, and the law itself! I do not blame Gentile Christians for rejecting the weekly Sabbath, Moses, and the Jewish people. They are just sheep! They are simply following their shepherds (2 thousand years of anti-Semitic and Gnostic/anti-nomian teachers). No – I blame their shepherds (teachers)! Their teachers know better. Yeshua warned us about teachers who would set aside commandments and teach others to do the same. He stated clearly that these types of teachers would be called “Least in the Kingdom”. Please take note of the Messiah’s words in Matthew 5:17-19

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Our Response
We should not be surprised or angry that this has happened in every generation. Our focus should be on helping the sheep see the lies and deception in these teachings. Our job is to liberate them from the mildew of antisemitism and anti-nomianism. Our mandate is to walk in the liberty of the law and lead others into the blessings of the ways of God, for the glory of Yeshua, as we advance His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven! Helping Christians rediscover the weekly Sabbath is a pathway to re-embracing Moses, and reconnecting with God’s chosen people Israel. This would yield untold blessings for Christians as well as Jewish people around the world.

God bless Israel and all the Gentiles whom bless her!
